DCSS CELEBRATES  NATIONAL BOOK READING CAMPAIGN

The month of July is declared by the National Book Development Board as the Children’s Book month. In line with this, SM City Davao sponsored a National Book Reading Campaign activity last July 19, 2011 held at the SM Event Centre. Some children from selected schools – both private and public, were invited for the said activity.

The Davao City Special School in Bangkal, Talomo District was represented by the Grade V Acacia class, a GTFL (Gifted Talented and Fast Learners) class in Grade V level. They are under the advisory of Ms. Rosario Myla A. Ignacio, who is also the School’s Reading Coordinator. The said student delegation performed Readers Theater during the activity. The children enjoyed the Story Telling and the Mascot Encounter. The school also received on that day, what could be an early Christmas present – books from SM Foundation’s Donate-A-Book Program. This is also in coordination with the Department of Education’s Adopt-A-School Program.

Mrs. Ma. Epifania Villa, Davao City Special School Principal, said the new books could truly promote “love for reading” for the young learners. She also said that the turnover of the books could not have been more timely as the school is really lacking in books. The school library was totally washed out during the flood sometime in June this year.

Representing the City School’s Division of Davao during the turn-over was Mrs. Elsa C. Maglapid, EPS-I for Special Education. Mrs. Maglapid thanked SM City Davao and said that she is hoping that more schools will benefit from the generosity of the company.
